Baskin’s weaving and drawing work explores the intersection of craft and classical rendering, addressing TV pop culture as a modern form of mythology. 

 

The artist uses traditional weaving and lace-making processes in combination with source imagery from reality television shows to address the intersections between analog and digital technologies. Within reality television, she finds a new kind of repetitive storytelling that recreates old myths, only this time in high heels, hair extensions, and contoured makeup on reality television stages.

 

Trained in classical drawing, Baskin received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2014. Transitioning to craft and studying weaving, natural dyes, and ikat dye resist processes, she received her Master of Fine Arts in Craft and Material Studies in 2018.

She has shown extensively across the US and had solo and two-person shows in galleries and institutions in estates like North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia and Texas. She has been the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards.
