Jiménez Galvis's artistic practice operates at the intersection of drama and theater, museums and photography. Using the camera, she captures sections and details of objects found in art and natural history museums. She explores the notions of change and transformation, and the tension and balance between contraries, as seen from the series "Denial of Absence: Romance of the Fragment". In this series, she documents antique broken sculptures from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Her work transcends the limits of photography to enter the universe of drama and theater, to which she has been very attached to since childhood.

 

Jiménez Galvis graduated with a BFA from the University of Los Andes, Bogota, and an MFA from Hunter College in New York. Simultaneously, she studied analog photography at the International Center of Photography. Currently, she combines her practice as an artist with a full-time position as a professor Analogue Photography at the University of Los Andes.

 

The artist has exhibited her work in Colombia, the United States, Germany, Spain, and France. In 2015, she was commissioned as a photographer by The Artist’s Institute, New York, for the inaugural edition of their magazine. She is also the winner of the Most Beautiful Book of the Year (Swiss Federal Design Awards), under the artistic direction of Pierre Huyghe. Additionally, she has worked under the direction of Peter Beard, Carolee Schneemann, among others.
