Carolina Casusol | February 2022
Carolina Casusol (b. 1986 in Lima, Perú) lives and works in Miami, FL
We first met Carolina at the Seven Seas Motel for Together, the hybrid art experience La Pera was a part of during Miami Art Week and where she was exhibiting. Carolina was part of the first edition of the Immigrant Artist Biennial in NYC (2020) and is currently a permanent artist in residency at Bakehouse Art Complex in Miami, which provides studio residencies and is a reference in developing the Miami artistic community and emergent talent.
Her artistic practice is marked by her interest in collecting images related to geography – such as maps, cartographic ephemera, and landscape photographs from her personal archives. She uses all this raw material to create what she calls ‘poetics of territory.’ Carolina has found a multilayer of patterns charting historical political economies, cultural interventions, and the intersections of nature and culture as they relate to space, place, and landscape.
Carolina holds a Master in Fine Arts from Tulane University (New Orleans) and Bachelor in Fine Arts from Corriente Alterna Art School (Lima), in partnership with San Marcos University, where she graduated with honors in 2011. She has presented work in over 15 solo and group exhibitions in the United States, Perú, and Argentina.
